September was a busy and exciting month. We have continued to support our ongoing service and fund raising projects while taking on a few new ones. We lost a few members at the end of the year but have welcomed just as many new members. It’s exciting to see new ideas and energy. Some of the highlights for me are: Meeting Schedule – This has been the most important decision I can remember in my almost 10 years as a Lion. Last spring, several members expressed interest in meeting less often. The board listened and created a committee to study the option. The committee developed a survey to assess the memberships thoughts as well ask questions about meals and programs. The results of the survey were: keep the meals, the programs were good, but 60% of those that responded wanted to change the meeting schedule. But wait! It’s not that easy. Based on the survey, the committee recommended to the board that we meet the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays. The board approved that recommendation and forwarded it to the members in the form of a change to the SOP (Standing Operating Practices). We had three nights of thoughtful discussion on both sides of the matter. In the end, the members that were present and voted chose the continue meeting every week by a 2/3 majority. From my perspective, I appreciate the support given during this process. I consider our club to be a healthy club where members feel open to express their ideas and concerns and other members respect their position. Thank you everyone that contributed to this process.

CHS STEAM – On July 26, the membership approved the purchase of a sheet metal shear for the Coupeville High School STEAM program. The shear weighs about 1200 pounds and a second piece of donated equipment weighs around 600 pounds. After a lot of planning and input from a number of resources, . . .
